Safety Valves

If an overpressure event occurs, a safety valve will open thereby releasing the excess pressure. This protects the plant and also prevent injuries.  Safety valves have to be reliable. Safety valves are repaired by the Furmanite team pertaining to Section I & VIII of the ASME Construction Codes.  Furmanite provides valve inspection, testing, documentation and all repairs in accordance to industry standards.

Trevitest™ Testing

The Trevitest™ testing ensures safety valves meet safety requirements and works at peak efficiency.  The testing identifies valves in need of adjustment or in need of repairs, without interrupting operations.  This test can be done on-line and in normal operating conditions as Hot Testing.  This test also certifies valves that are performing as expected and document valves that are not, via Cold Testing.  The testing is operated within control procedures based off of ISO 9001, and can be used with most safety and relief valves under use in steam, air, gas process and water systems.  These valves include conventional spring types, torsion bar types and pilot-operated types.

Trevitest™ works by applying a force to the valve spindle larger then the spring tension of the valve, via a hydraulic power jack linked to an electronic force transducer.  The computer system is used to measure the force applied.  The set pressure can then be deduced by combining the force applied with the line pressure of the valve and the information on the valve seat.
